Sealife (2014)

by EYYES

Sealife is my water-themed second album, recorded live with just guitar and voice. Its metaphor stems from the Icarus myth: I flew too close to the Sun, uprooting my old sense of self... and fell from grace, drowning in my own sorrow. In the blue depths of Gaia, I found myself again. It's a tale of death and rebirth with oceanic undertones. The first album coincided with a profound inner metamorphosis that left me deeply depressed for the first half of 2013, my dark night of the soul. I didn't know who I was anymore. In the summer, the miracle of nature helped me heal, recovering the profound connection to the wild I had as a child. Then I moved to Toulouse whose beautiful parks, vibrant student life and laid-back atmosphere welcomed me with open arms. I fell in love and started to paint in colours. I learnt drum journeying with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, which felt just like home. The cover artwork, titled Welcome Home, explores the evolution of life in the seas.
