🪶 I developed that style to reproduce my mystical visions, which in the right setting (dear darkness) appear as bright colours against a nighttime background. Some call them phosphenes, I call them teachings. This art was born from a deep need to integrate the extraordinary experiences that life put on my path, as language alone proved to be insufficient. I consider art to be deeply therapeutic. These simple lines, dots and patterns drawn from light gave me a framework to understand, heal and explore my own authentic neurology – and they still do to this day!

🪶 These drawings were the first physical ones of my early twenties, doodles that gradually gained in complexity. The Insomnia series were illustrations for the songs of my first album, a tradition I now pursue. The iconographic symmetry translates an unfolding struggle between the Manichean (good vs. evil) and the Taoist (neutral + positive) versions of the black-and-white complementarity. Exploring that contrast helped in the evolution of my personal philosophy, and gave rise to the colourful Posca paintings that followed.

🎨 Some coloured pencils, and some liquid watercolours with lines masked with drawing gum. A few use additional fineliner and/or black felt-tip pens, and the first one is with coloured felt-tip pens. All on white cardstock or watercolour paper depending on the medium.

🪶 Here's a mix of various experiments with bright hues. Although it is not my style of predilection, it gives me a nice break on the other kinds of artworks I make: it keeps my craft alive. Some are mandalas, some are animistic metaphors, some are alien ventures into strange states of mind.

🪶 These were my first drawings as an adult, on-screen, where I used to spend quite some time. In my early twenties, a few friends and I formed a creative collective: La Pieuvre. Although it didn't last long, it inspired me to get out there as a sprouting artist. Most of these digital artworks are either illustrations inspired by my own song lyrics, or posters for the few gigs I played at the time.

🎵 Singer-songwriter albums with guitar and voice. Sealife is recorded raw, while Insomnia layers other melodic instruments, and Aya features friends and family who sing and play extra instruments. Memories is more of a compilation of demos, spanning my first years of songwriting.

🪶 When I started singing and playing the guitar at 18, I immediately wrote songs. It was a welcome evolution from my French poetry years, and a good way to reconnect to my English roots. I taught myself by covering new and old singer-songwriters, at the heart of the splendid folk music revival. In my early twenties, I published a few albums under the name EYYES and played some gigs here and there – then my shamanic practice took over for a while. Now in my mid-thirties, I am happy to release new songs as Jimmy Jay Joël.
