Insomnia (2013)

by EYYES

Insomnia is my first album, recorded in an empty café during the Christmas holidays. I had lots of fun layering voices and instruments, the room resonated well and I could use the grand piano. Each track has a corresponding drawing that you can find further down, a tradition I now pursue with the Umbi artworks. It was a time of spiritual wonders and difficult heartbreaks, giving this first take a deeply nostalgic feel. It marks my life's introduction to the numinous, far from the rigid programs of my youth, and its theme is the night: boundless universes, stellar openings, swirling galaxies. The cosmic lover that I was, represented by my Nebulon character on the cover, was still up there at the time, not quite incarnated, not knowing he was about to dangerously crash on a beautiful planet. That's why the lyrics are very much about love stories and spacetime, rather than the natural Gaian metaphors that appear in the next album.
